Another great Hurricane Blog

TV Channel 11 - KHOU has a great Hurricane Rita blog of breaking events and closures in the Houston area.

There were reports today of up to three hour waits at Houston area gas stations today with many altercations if people tried to break into the gasoline lines.

Here is a photo of one deserted gasoline station in north Houston with plastic wrapped around the pump handles and signs - "No gas" at a normally busy intersection off the Eastex Freeway.

All stores are closed in our neigborhood today except for one local drug store that was closing at 4 pm. If you don't have your supplies by now, you might be in trouble.

During Hurricane Alicia in 1983, many parts of Houston had no electricity for as many as ten days -  water and land-line phones were working. After Hurricane Rita with no air conditioner, many of the  stay-behind Houstonians may be very uncomfortable. Many infirm or sick people may become dehydrated quickly in the 90-100 degree heat if your local community loses electricity for an extended time period.

If you did not evacuate before Hurricane Rita, you might want to reconsider after Rita has cleared - caution, Tropical Storm Allison flooding may occur.
